SOME ADVANTAGES TO USE A VIDEO-ASSIST SYSTEM · When you’re shooting in a confined space, such as a car, you can see the scene on the monitor without having to look through the eyepiece, which can be quite uncomfortable if you’re filming the car’s occupants. · If your film involves actors or something that requires some people behind the camera to view the shot, rather than just the camera operator, several members on the crew can see in the monitor what or who is entering the scene: actors entering or exiting the scene, exposure parameters (using the zoom of tap camera the frame can be reduced so we can see the f-number and other things depending on the movie camera, although in many of my video tests I adjusted zoom to the movie frame, and these parameters are not visible). · With a monitor recorder, you have a digital archive prior to your film being processed in laboratory, so you can immediately review the results of scenes and retake them if necessary, pre-edit your film, and zoom in or out on the movie camera lens without fear of missing anything that’s involved in the scene. · Focusing is possible with a video-assist via the monitor. · Shooting with fast camera movements, looking through the viewfinder without missing details can be difficult. We can avoid this with the video-assist. · When filming stop-motion, a video-assist system is useful for framing given the camera position (usually vertical). · Leveling the movie camera is also easy with a video-assist system. The purpose of a video-assist system is not to look like Super 8 or 16 mm film in a digital recording, since this tap camera cannot emulate photochemical media at all. This device is designed to obtain a parallel recording to the Super 8 o 16 mm film shot, which can be used to work on, before the cartridges are developed and to perform a preliminary montage.
